Health and Lifestyle
Are you looking for ways to lead a more healthy lifestyle with what you eat? Or maybe you need inspiration to think of things to do to get more active? If you think either of these apply to you then we have the resources for you!
These sites can give you quality information on what foods are good for you, and what you can do to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Even if you think there is nothing for you to learn, you may be surprised at the benefits a few small changes could have.
These sites are designed specifically for you, so what are you waiting for?
KidsHealth / TeensHealth
KidsHealth is a great website to visit if you are looking for answers for anything to do with both physical and emotional problems. It is split into parents, kids and teens sections so you will be able to find the section that is best for you.
Once you are on your specific site, there are menus to help you get around and informative articles on everything from skin problems to drink / drug information. There are also sections to help with dealing with difficult emotional problems such as dealing with grief, stress and even moving house.
If you are having problems and need advice, this could be the site for you.
Wired for Health
Wired for Health is part of the Government initiative to encourage more 'Healthy Schools' in the UK. The main website is mostly centred around national projects and statistics, but this section of the site is great for students of all ages.
It is split into a site for each KeyStage so you can easily find what you're looking for. Each site has specific areas that are designed for that age group, and can prepare you so you have an idea of what the next few years will have in store.
Really simple to use, and very informative, this site is great for students aged 5-16.
Teen WeightWise
Teen WeightWise is a site specifically designed for teens to learn more about issues surrounding weight, body image, food and exercise. These topics are covered heavily, and you are likely to find answers to any questions right here.
However healthy you think you live your life, there is a handy quiz to give you guidance - who knows, you might learn a thing or two!
Once you have completed the quiz, there are ideas on getting active, recipes to help you eat healthily and advice sections to make any changes easier. The site is good at encouraging changes to be made rather than lecturing you on bad habits, so makes it easy to read.
Healthy Kids Rock
Healthy Kids Rock is a great initiative to get you and your family cooking great, healthy meals together. Using the recipes provided here you can see that cooking can be fun AND good for you!
Once you are registered, many more options on the site become available, and this only takes a couple of minutes. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask your parents and get them involved in helping you to learn how to cook!
Calorie Counter
The Calorie Counter is a great way to quickly see how your food affects you. It has a guideline intake, which is calculated when you insert your age, weight and height, so you can plan what you eat for a healthy diet. Remember this is only a simple and quick guideline, for more information the resources above are great places to start.
