Learning Resources
Struggling at school? Or just want to find out more about interesting topics?
Here you can find everything to help you with work at school. There are revision notes, study activities and even games to help you learn!
BBC Schools
BBC Schools is one of the best resources on the web for school work. This site has everything you could need to know, and come from a very respected source.
Sections on each subject break it down and provide information in each area, as well as forums to chat with other students doing the same thing around the country! Specific areas of the site are dedicated to KeyStage 1 right up to GCSE BiteSize, making it even easier to find what you need.
Other areas include Blast! where your creative urges can be set free, and a games area for the times you just don't feel like studying!
Wikipedia
Wikipedia is an online collaborative (written by the public) encyclopedia containing millions of articles on literally anything you could think of. For this reason, and the fact it can be accessed anywhere in the world with an internet connection, it is a valuable resource for quickly researching information on a huge variety of topics.
As well as the articles, there are thousands of resources such as: quotes, news, events in history, videos, soundbites and much more...
A word of warning about the site though. Although the general quality of the information is very good, the site is collaborative and some of the information can be inaccurate. For this reason it should be considered an excellent resource for quickly looking up information, but as with most websites, be careful when using it for schoolwork.
Dictionary.com
More than just a dictionary... This is your resource for all things word-related. Apart from the obvious dictionary and thesaurus functions, there are features such as Word of the Day and the Crossword Solver to help you build up your vocabulary gradually.
Kidsclick
Kidsclick is a web-search site devloped by librarians to provide safe searching of the internet for young people. This site brings the library to you, by doing the internet searching so you don't have to. The result is this huge group of useful sites that are appropriate for you.
In order to help you out, it is split into sections such as 'Literature' and 'The Arts', although there are also interesting sections on sport, entertainment and mythology for you to browse at your leisure.
S-Cool
S-Cool is aimed at GCSE and A-Level students, and is one of the leading revision websites for students in the UK. Material is split into subjects to make it easy to navigate, and follows the curriculum closely to make it as relevant as possible. The material itself is well set-out with illustrative pictures and diagrams to help you to understand each section.
Other interesting sections include advice on dealing with unexpected exam results, analysing your handwriting and what to do on results day.
As it is aimed at older students at school, it also gives information on interview skills, careers, cars, student bank accounts and other concerns of people in this age-group.
How Stuff Works
How Stuff Works is exactly what you would think from the title! If you've ever wondered how anything works - from automobiles to zombies - then this is the site for you. There is a search engine, in which you can type anything you are interested in, and look at explanations, images, expert reviews and opinions.
Everything is supported by pictures, and is often linked to relevant items in modern culture (eg. a search for tunnels brings up information on the Channel Tunnel) so you can broaden your knowledge with more than just boring facts.
